Ooops!

I made my first miss in p365 yesterday. I kept thinking about taking a picture and forgot to actually do it. :( so I took the picture I was planning on taking yesterday this morning to make up for it.

From Project365
11.16.08, Day 43. Also about rusted things? I saw the rust guardrails and went Ooooooh!

From Project365
11.17.08, Day 44. This is picture that would have been taken on the 17th had I remembered. But I forgot, so I took it on the 18th instead. Miss #1.

Why you should always have a REAL key

It's been very windy here in Boulder lately. Very, very windy. Today with about five minutes left in class, as my students were working on homework for tomorrow, the lights flickered, and went off. I let them out five minutes early, although we could have gotten more light by just raising the blinds. It was weird walking through Hellems with no overhead lights, although there are emergency lights. I got back to Humanities, where my office is, and realized that the lights were out there too. I got into the building easily enough, apparently the doors locked automatically and you could only get in if someone from inside opened the door for you. Then I headed up the stairs to the second floor, right away I noticed it was darker in Humanities with the way the building is set up. The second thing I noticed on the second floor was that my office was locked. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, I'd just swipe my card and go in . . . But key cards only work if there is electricity. So we asked the department coordinator to let us in but apparently the lock was changed and no one gave her the new key. So I sat outside of my office, which since it was pitch black I didn't really want to be in anyway, for twenty minutes with nothing to do, until the lights came back on and the card reader cycled it's way back to working. But I did want to take a picture of what the halls looked like with only the emergency lights on and my camera was in the office, of course. So if your office is accessible only by swiping a card I'd recommend you get a physical backup plan, in case the power goes off.

In other words I have just now submitted a paper for consideration for publication in a book. Keeping my fingers crossed.

From Project365
11.13.08, Day 40. The sky here continues to amaze me with how blue it is, also I like how the sun still reaches the top of the cloud but the bottom is shady.

Rusted flying moon trees!

From Project365
11.09.08, Day 36. Today my brother took me flying. Thanks Pete!

From Project365
11.10.09, Day 37. I was taking a picture of the rusted ladder, can't you tell? I actually have a couple picture which focus much more on the ladder but I like this one better.

From Project365
11.11.08, Day 38. I like the way bare branches look against the sky. Happy Veteran's Day, Dad!

From Project365
11.12.09, Day 39. I wish, I wish I had a tripod. The moon over campus as I was heading home. Happy comps day me.

From Project 365 extras

11.09.08, Day 36. (Flying with Pete.) Ice on the wings.

From Project 365 extras

11.09.08, Day 36. (Flying with Pete.) I like what the parking spots are labeled. The original intention was to flip the picture about so the writing would be right side up and I wouldn't have to worry about my shadow on the letters. Then I realized how bad that would look. Anyway I like this better.

From Project 365 extras

11.09.08, Day 36. (Flying with Pete.) De-icing the plane. It's just a wee little plane isn't it?

From Project 365 extras

11.09.08, Day 36. (Flying with Pete.) Recharging the plane. Did you know their batteries go dead? Yeah, neither did I.

From Project 365 extras

11.09.08, Day 36. (Flying with Pete.) The Flatirons without any pesky building in between me and the picture I want.

From Project 365 extras

11.09.08, Day 36. (Flying with Pete.) You can make pens float in small planes. No I didn't toss it up and take a picture it's really floating. I have a video of my camera floating.

From Project 365 extras

11.09.08, Day 36. (Flying with Pete.) Lake with smokestacks. I was taking a picture of the smokestacks more than anything else. What can I say? If it's rusty, broken, industrial looking or better, all three at once I'm bound to take a picture of it.

From Project 365 extras
11.09.08, Day 36. (Flying with Pete.) My school and the Flatirons, with some of the rest of Boulder too.

::keels over::

Finished paper . . . must study . . . In the past two days I have written 6,703 words. 8,240 if you count the footnotes. Now I'm going to ignore the paper until tomorrow when I need to re-read and edit it (and beg Mum to read it too).

For now have pictures.

From Project365
11.07.08, Day 34. There were so many pictures I could have used for today's but I like this one the best. The straight line of that cloud and the other just peeking over the mountains.

From Project365
11.08.08, day 35. Last gasp, the most determined of leaves. Yesterday was a very blustery day, I'm amazed they're still attached.

And an extra picture

11.07.08 day 34. A picture from the very blustery day. There were a ton of leaves inside the doors too.

Day after the election and how to write a paper

From Project365
11.05.08 Day 32. I knew exactly what picture I wanted for today. But I didn't have to got to school until late today and by the time I made it to the UMC to take the picture, I couldn't. I was going to take a picture of these with the 'Obama wins!" headline, but they are all sold out. And although the Colorado Daily was still there and I do have a picture of it I like this one better. How often really are all the newspapers sold out by noon?

From Project365
11.06.08, Day 33. How to Write a Paper. For some reason I can ignore the lure of the internet better if I'm not at my desk, also I like being able to spread all my reference materials out around me. The only problem is where am I going to sleep?

Extra picture sort of the picture that would have been 11.05's picture.
From Project 365 extras

11.05.08 Day 32, this is a version of the picture I wanted to take for today except all of the major papers were sold out and as it turns out I liked the picture of the empty newspaper thingys better.PS If anyone wonders why my locations are always so weird it's because I like seeing what comes up when I click the Google maps link.

Election day without a TV

From Project365
11.02.08 Day 29, yet another picture of clouds that isn't as cool as I thought it would be.

From Project365
11.03.08, Day 30, Exhibit A of why CU needs more bikeracks. We have a LOT of bikeracks and bikes still get locked to the railings.

From Project365
11.04.08, Day 31, One of the many reminders to vote chalked about campus. There are also many very clean patches of sidewalk where the spray painted "vote" messages have been blasted off.

Earlier today I remarked that I was glad I didn't have a TV so I wouldn't be glued to the TV for election results. Allow me to recant this remark. I am instead constantly reloading the New York Times and fivethirtyeight etc. a TV would be nicer, especially because I'm going to miss Indecision2008! Actually I'll probably end up watching it in the TA office tomorrow.

In non-political news, last year in one of my classes we read the manuscript for the professor's forthcoming book and made suggestions etc. Today I walked into the mailroom and went ?? at my box which had a nice thick envelope in it. The envelope contains a copy of the newly published book with a nice note from the professor in it. It's nice to see the finished product.

Heh, haven't been updating but I have been taking pictures

Here then are the pictures for the last six days.
From Project365
10.27.08, Day 23. I liked the way the hills looked in reality, don't actually like the picture but I only took one picture for the day so I'm stuck with it.

From Project365
10.28.08, Day 24, I voted for him but the way so many of his supporters on campus slap the stickers on anything without regard to if it's appropriate really pisses me off. Bonus points for my reflection and a tiny bit of my friend DT standing behind me.

From Project365
10.29.08 Day 25, A weird ledge on the side of Hale, with a hole where something might have been.

From Project365
10.30.08, Day 26, A tree by my bus stop and a very blue sky. There is another very similar photo that I took today, it's up in the extras album.

From Project365
10.31.08 Day 27, a drain and a tree. No I wasn't laying on the ground to take the picture, there's a bit of a hill so the drain is actually about three feet above the side walk, awfully handy if you want this angle.

From Project365
11.01.08 Day 28, I think this will eventually be a lamp post, not entirely sure though. I took a bunch of pictures of it yesterday but I liked the light in the pictures from this morning better.

From Project 365 extras

11.01.08, Day 28. The very similar photo to day 26's. It took only two days for the tree to loose the last of it's leaves. Although I like how bare the branches are in this one the other has better contrast without the clouds in the background.
